Email Prospecting
Email respects your prospect’s time. Most experts agree an email is the best initial approach to a potential customer. If they’re not interested in what you have to say, they can move on. If they are interested, they can connect by their contact method of choice.
However, a lot of people struggle to get the email message right. We have 9 tips we follow when using sales emails.
9 Tips to Successful Email Writing
- “Are we adding value to their day or wasting their time?” There is no in between answer. If we don’t have a good reason why email them at all?
- Is it less than 100 words? Remember the “goldfish principle” and ask yourself how long you spend reading prospective emails?
- Is the subject line about us or them? Subject lines that address their problems not all about us!
- Is it simple looking, easy to read, black and white text with an easy to read font? Too many changes make for hard reading and the “goldfish principle” applies again.
- Is the message clear? Can the reader decide straight away that it is worth further investment of their time?
- Are we credible? Show you have done research as to why they should be interested in our message.
- What is our value-add message or proposition? If it doesn't fall into an idea, information or a cost benefit we don't email.
- Call to action or close message. Can be direct “I will call you on date, time” or not so direct depending on email intent. It should always state a next step.
- Will they thank us for the email? Have we left a positive influence by added value to their day?
